Project Overview
The Lassen Lodge Hydroelectric Project sited between Mineral and Manton in eastern Tehama County, California just below Lassen Volcanic National Park is being developed by Rugraw, LLC.
The project is a “run of the river” project that returns 100% of the water into South Fork Battle Creek after it is run through penstock pipes and a hydroelectric water turbine – a pelton wheel tied to a 5MW electrical generator. This project is planned to generate 25 million kWHR a year in a ‘normal’ rainfall year. This is enough clean green micro-hydroelectric generation to power 5,000 homes in the CAISO PG&E territory of Northern California where the project is under contract to be interconnected to the electrical grid as early as Fall 2026.
The project diverts up to 95 cubic feet per second (cfs) when South Fork Battle Creek is running at flow levels high enough to support those diversions for power generation. To maintain the native environment, diversions only start after South Fork Battle Creek has sufficient flow to maintain 13 cfs in the creek. At lower flows than this – often in later summer and fall months of the year – the diversion structure is folded down and South Fork Battle Creek will run unimpeded in its natural state.
